In this piece for WBEZ’s Curious City, I explored Chicago’s history with fare tokens, with a pointed focus on those used by the Chicago Transit Authority. Perhaps more interesting are the ways in which people have repurposed the old tokens, and what that means about the city and its identity. I also worked with a multimedia producer (Maggie Sivit), who helped me visualize the piece with an original comic exploring the life of a token.
